How to measure a cushion?

So you have decided to replace the old cushion of your furniture and renew the whole feel and look of it. The next step would be measuring the size of the cushion and ordering it online. Here is a guide on how to measure your cushion:

What you will need

  • A pen or pencil
  • Paper
  • Tape measure

Measuring the Cushion

  1. Take the old foam out of the cover
  2. Measure the greatest depth, length and width of the cover seam to seam. (Note: rounded corner covers can be deceptive and hold the foam in, the foam is really bigger than the cover; that is ok, and when you install the new piece you want a tight fit.)
  3. Using these measurements add an additional 0.5” to the length, width, and thickness. Then if your cover thickness exceeds by an entire inch by ½ “or less round it down to the nearest inch. If your covers thickness exceeds by more than ½” then round it up to the nearest inch. So, a measured thickness of 4 ½” would be increased to 5 ½” thickness and round down to 5”. A measured thickness of 4 ¾” would increase to 5 ¾” and round up to 6”.
